Water Tanks & Handpumps Projects

MMF realizes that due to scarcity of water day by day, water tanks and handpumps are lifelines in drought-stricken areas, providing access to a basic human necessity: clean water. Why MMF took these projects so important:

  • Survival: Water is essential for human survival. In drought-prone regions, access to clean water can be scarce and unreliable. Water tanks and handpumps provide a reliable source of water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene, preventing dehydration and waterborne diseases.
  • Sanitation and Hygiene: Access to clean water is crucial for maintaining basic sanitation and hygiene. It allows communities to wash hands, clean clothes, and maintain proper hygiene practices, reducing the spread of diseases.
  • Livelihoods: In many drought-affected areas, agriculture is a primary source of livelihood. Water tanks and handpumps can be used for irrigation, enabling communities to continue farming and sustain their livelihoods even during dry periods.
  • Education: Lack of access to clean water can significantly impact children’s education. When children are tasked with fetching water from long distances, it can disrupt their schooling. Water tanks and handpumps located near schools or communities can improve school attendance and educational outcomes.
  • Women’s Empowerment: In many cultures, women are primarily responsible for fetching water. Water tanks and handpumps can reduce the time and effort required to collect water, freeing up women’s time for other activities, such as education, income-generating activities, or childcare.

Masjid Madaris Foundation’s initiative to establish 221 water tanks and handpumps is a commendable effort to address the critical water needs of drought-affected communities. By providing access to clean water, the foundation is not only improving the lives of these communities but also contributing to their long-term resilience and sustainability.
